The Methow Valley Sport Trails Association is excited to showcase another great children's book as part of our summer “StoryHike” project.
This past winter, skiers of all ages enjoyed cross-country skiing and reading the glorious, animated book, Polar Opposites by Erik Brooks. This summer the Beaver Pond trail at Sun Mountain will be lined with another one of Erik Brooks' locally illustrated books titled Totem Tale.
Midwest Book Review describes Totem Tale as “a lively and original story by Deb Vanasse with skillfully drawn illustrations by Erik Brooks to create the fun tale of a Native American totem pole which comes to life in the beauty of a moon-lit night. Children will follow the adventures of a beaver, an eagle, a bear, a wolf, a raven and a frog through a remarkable journey on one very special night. An engaging picturebook account of cooperation, faithfulness, and helping out a friend in need, Totem Tale is very highly recommended for all young readers, as well as parents searching for something entertaining and worthwhile for children ages 5 through 8 to read and enjoy.”
Winthrop resident Erik Brooks is the author/illustrator of several books for children, including our own personal Storyski favorite, POLAR OPPOSITES. Erik has also illustrated the work of esteemed authors Betsy Byars, Shirley Climo, and James Cross Giblin. The TOTEM TALE manuscript, by Deb Vanasse, jumped out at Erik because of his own elementary school days spent in Anchorage, Alaska. Read more about Erik's work at www.erikbrooks.com and learn more about TOTEM TALE by taking your kids for a walk!
This project is made possible through the support of the Community Foundation of North Central Washington, Erik Brooks and MVSTA.
