MVSTA’s signature Nordic ski event, with courses spanning the length of the Methow Valley from Sun Mountain to Mazama, and a salmon dinner Saturday evening. Choose from a Pursuit or Citizen format: Pursuit racers ski a classic race the first day, in which their finish times determine start times for the skate race on the second day; Citizen races choose to participate in the classic or skate race.

  • Saturday - A 15K Classic Course on the Sun Mountain Ski Trails with a 500 ft. overall elevation gain and loss.
  • Sunday - Methow Community Trail from Mazama to Winthrop; start at Corral Trailhead in Mazama and finish at the Winthrop Town Trailhead.

Junior Distances & Race Course Descriptions

  • Saturday (classic) - J3 Raven & Chickadee trails 2x; J4 Raven and Chickadee trails 1x; J5-7 Chickadee trail 1x.
  • Sunday (skate) - J3 approximately 2.5K on the Methow Community Trail from Wolf Creek to Winthrop Town Trailhead; J4 approximately 1.5K on the Methow Community Trail from Wolf Creek to Winthrop Town Trailhead; J5-7 time trial at Winthrop Town Trailhead Loop.

Saturday, January 10: Chickadee Day Lodge/Sun Mountain Trails

  • 8:30 a.m. interval start for J3 racers, followed by J4 racers
  • 9:00 a.m. interval start for J5 racers, followed by J6 and J7 racers
  • 10:00 a.m. interval start for Pursuit Class Racers
  • Citizen Racers will start behind the last Pursuit Racer, approximately 10:30 a.m.

Sunday, January 11: Corral Trailhead/Mazama

  • 8:00 a.m. Bus departure from the Winthrop Barn to Mazama for Pursuit Racers
  • 8:45 a.m. Van departure from the Winthrop Town Trailhead for J3/J4 start racers
  • 9:00 a.m. Bus departure from the Winthrop Barn to Mazama for Citizen racers
  • 9:00 a.m. interval start in Mazama for Pursuit racers
  • 9:30 a.m. interval start for for J3 racers, followed by J4 racers
  • 9:45 a.m. mass start for Pursuit Racers outside the 45-minute cut-off
  • 9:50 a.m. mass start for Citizen Class Racers
  • 2:00 p.m. time trial for J5, J6, J7 racers on loop at Winthrop Trailhead

Cost

  • Pursuit Class (Nordic Series)—$60; includes transportation to Corral Trailhead in Mazama, a race souvenir, Saturday night salmon dinner, refreshments, awards, and random prizes
  • Citizen Class—$30 for Saturday or $30 for Sunday; includes a race souvenir, refreshments, awards, and random prizes
  • Juniors (J3 & J4)- $11 for one day or $17 for both days (J5-7 racers are free)
  • $10 late fee after January 7

Registration and Bib Pick-Up

Online Registration is now closed. You may register in person at the locations and times listed below. Pre-registered racer pick up bibs and packets at the same locations.

Participants


Seeding

Skiers will be seeded for Saturday’s interval start based on past results or estimated finish times. Please provide this information on registration form no later than 12 noon on Wednesday, January 7.  

Transportation

Busses will depart the Winthrop Barn 8:00 a.m. Sunday morning for Pursuit race start in Mazama; 9:00 a.m. for Citizen race start. Shuttles will be available to take racers back to the Barn after race finish.

Wax and Snow Analysis Report

A Swix technical representative will be at Winthrop Mountain Sports 5:00 - 6:00 p.m. Friday and Saturday, January 9 and 10 to provide up-to-date wax information.

Hands on wax clinic near Mazama by David Ford, member of the Toko Tech Team, Friday, 6:30 p.m. Free. Call 509-996-4115 to reserve a space.

Salmon Dinner

Included in cost of Pursuit Class registration fee. All are welcome! Tickets available at packet pick-up and at door. Cost: $15.00 for adults; $12.00 for children 5-12. A fundraiser for the MV Nordic Team.
