We are preparing for the 2nd great season of skating and skiing during the 2008-2009 season. The ground is cold and ice making will begin when the temperatures drop. With a little help from Mother Nature, the rink will be open for business before the Christmas holidays.

The Winthrop Ice & Sports Rink is the culmination of over ten years of dedicated individuals sharing their vision, passion, and time. It originated from a group of local skating and hockey devotees who first created a public open air facility in 1997 after skating for years on various shoveled ponds and watered lawns around the Valley. Since then, the rink has rapidly gained popularity, as youth, men’s and women’s hockey teams and figure skaters of all ages and abilities vie for ice time on a regular basis.
The Rink and Town Trailhead, an $800,000 project, is made possible through grants and private donations. Financial support includes $375,000 from the Washington State Recreation and Conservation Office, and additional support from Okanogan County, the Town of Winthrop, MVSTA, generous contributions of local professional services, and over $200,000 in private contributions.
Thank you to everyone who donated time, money and vision during the creation of the Winthrop Rink and Town Trailhead.
